Dr. Walter J. Lawrence is a 1977 Graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.
He graduated from St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1990.
From there he completed a residency in Family Practice at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
He completed a second residency in Aerospace Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base, Texas, after obtaining a Masters of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
Before retiring from the Army in 2003, he served three years as Chief, Department of Aviation Medicine, Fort Rucker, and then as Commander, Barquist Army Health Clinic, Fort Detrick, Maryland.
He was a Senior Army Flight Surgeon and was awarded the U.S. Army Flight Surgeon of the Year award in 1996 and the Quad-A Aviation Medicine Award in 2000.
After retirement, he went into private practice locally for five years, before accepting an appointment as an Associate Professor in Family Medicine at Ohio University.
Desiring to return to Enterprise, Alabama, he accepted the position of Medical Director of Enterprise Express Care, which opened in February 2010, and then opened his own private practice in November 2013.
Dr. Lawrence is a Senior FAA Aviation Medical Examiner. He is also listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners and performs CDT/CMV drivers’ medical examinations.
